There will be free parking at festive local events taking place in Oakham and Uppingham.

Rutland County Council is once again providing free parking in all council-owned public car parks across both late night shopping events in Oakham and Uppingham and also during Small Business Saturday at the beginning of December.

Free parking for late night shopping will be available in Oakham and Uppingham on the following dates and times:

• Uppingham, 7 December 2023 from 3pm for Late Night Shopping
• Oakham, 11 December 2023 from 3pm for Late Night Shopping

All on-street parking restrictions will remain in place as normal.

Prior to the late night shopping events, Small Business Saturday will take place on 2 December, and aims to promote local business during the festive season as well as prompting residents to support shops within their local area.

There will be free parking in both towns' council-owned public car parks all day on this date. Pre-paid sessions cannot be refunded.

The important work conducted by Civil Enforcement Officers is a driving force behind the ability to run events in the county such as this. Ensuring that car parks are paid for during the year allows the Council to have the revenue to offer gestures during the festive period.

Councillor Christine Wise, Portfolio Holder for Highways, Transport and the Environment, said: "We're very pleased to again be supporting Christmas shopping events with the offer of free parking, and the welcome boost they provide for our two market towns.
