From empty field to community hub: Root and Branch Out welcome visitors to Growers Row
By Grace Kennington 15th Feb 2026
Once an empty field, Growers Row has become a productive community garden, educational space and welcoming outdoor environment for the whole community in the five years since it opened.
Situated at Rutland County Showground on the outskirts of Oakham, Growers Row proudly connects the community with a beautiful natural space, growing fresh produce, beautiful flowers and encouraging local people to reconnect with the natural world.
On Saturday 28 March between 10am and 1pm, Root and Branch Out will be holding an open day at Growers Row, inviting residents to explore their magical space
The acre-size garden is home to a variety of flora and fauna. The delightful, extensive garden has a selection of garden beds and polytunnels where food is grown all year round.
Twisting through the centre of the garden, explore the wildflower river and orchard of rescued trees. There is also a loose-parts play area for children, a yoga lawn, a green house and seating area to relax and enjoy the soothing atmosphere of the garden.
On the open day, there will also be tours of the garden, family activities to try and refreshments.
Root and Branch Out are always open to new volunteers and people looking to get involved with the work they do. Growers Row is open to volunteers and visitors every Wednesday between 10am and 3pm.
