A live music event is being held later this month to raise funds for the rescue boat fundraising campaign launched in memory of Ketton teenager Sonny Ferry.

Nineteen-year-old Sonny lost his life when he fell in the River Foss, in York, in the early hours of April 13 after a night out.

His family, led by parents Kate and Steve, started The Sunshine Campaign just 10 days later with a target of £45,000 to provide a brand new fully-equipped rescue boat - The Humber Destroyer 7m - for the volunteer-run York Rescue Boat charity.

It will replace the charity's current outdated craft and feature life-saving equipment including a radio system, throwlines, lifebouys and reach pole and 3D scanning sonar.

The online appeal has so far raised just over £21,000 and all proceeds from the live music and raffle being held at Ketton Sports and Community Centre on Saturday, 17 January - featuring Filthy Contact – will go to boost the online campaign coffers.

The event starts at 7.30pm until later and entry is £5 on the door.

Ketton Sports and Community Centre is special for the Ferry family. Both Sonny and his older brother played for the youth teams and Steve managed them while the boys were players.
