Rutland Police are warning people to be on their guard for fraudsters impersonating police officers.

The force has posted on social media: "We have received a few reports of people calling residents claiming to be police officers.

"They appear to be asking if the occupant lives alone. Please make contact using 101 if this has happened to you.

"Locally we don't just call people randomly and wouldn't ask if you live alone."

The reports follow Melton Police similarly warning people about what is known as 'Courier Fraud' earlier this week.

They said on social media: "Please share this amongst the local community, particularly with any elderly family members, neighbours, friends & anyone who may not use the internet.

"Remember the police will NEVER ask you to hand over sums of cash."

Last month, Leicestershire Police also warned of people impersonating police officers, as previously reported by Nub News.

Rutland County Council has also warned of similar scams operating in the area, as also reported by Nub News.
