Victoria Hall are getting ready for their upcoming Ceilidh evening with a popular local band, Govannen.

The team at Victoria Hall have been driving forward with a host of new events since the appointment of their new Chairman, David Graham, in April 2022.

This year they have already hosted a sell-out Disco for Grown Ups, a range of art exhibitions in their newly renovated Allman Gallery, and live music events.

Now, they are getting set to welcome Govannen to the stage and introduce the local community to the Ceilidh, a popular Irish/Scottish gathering that involves dance, music - and often a well stocked bar!

The word Ceilidh (kay-lee) is descended from the Gaelic word for 'gathering' or 'party'. These days, however, when people think of a Ceilidh, they think of a fun filled night of wild dancing, good music and great company.

Residents will be invited to join in, dancing to the traditional jigs and reels with instructions from an experienced dance caller on Rutland county's best dance floor.

A spokesperson for Victoria Hall said: "Govannen are one of the best Celtic music bands in the UK blending jigs and reels with traditional and contemporary songs. No dancing experience is needed as there is a dance caller to give all instruction. Also, if people don't wish to dance and just enjoy the atmosphere with a few drinks then that's fine too, as we will have a fully licensed bar provided by The Grainstore!"

The band are based in Melton and Leicester and features Dan Britton, Chris Conway, Adele McMahon, and Roger Wilson.

Tickets cost £10, plus a booking fee, and drinks will be available to purchase from the bar, hosted by The Grainstore Brewery and Tap.

This event will take place on 28 April, and doors will open at 7pm. Music will take place from 8pm and continue until midnight.

The question is, who will be the belle of the ball and who will have two left feet?

See you there to find out!
