Bike club to host two parades around Oakham this weekend

Gold Wing Owners Club of GB will be hosting two parades around Oakham this weekend and is inviting locals to line the streets.

Organisers said: "We'd love it if the locals of Oakham and surrounding villagers would line the streets for our two parades around town. 

"To see 100+ bikes with their shiny lights (Friday night) and then their display of every European flags from the countries that will be attending our event (Saturday teatime) is a sight not to be missed by all ages.

"Our riders and pillions will be waving to you all for the whole of the parade and we'd love it if you waved back to us too.

"The Mayor of Oakham will be joining us and riding on one of the front bikes and we might just have one more special guest too."

The Light Parade takes place on Friday 23 August (Gold Wing Owners Club of GB).

The Light Parade takes place on Friday 23 August and leaves Rutland Showground at 9pm.

The Parade of Nations takes place on Saturday 24 August and leaves Rutland Showground at 5pm.

The route for both nights is:

  • Left out of Rutland showground onto Burley Park Way                        
  • At roundabout go straight on (2nd exit)                              
  • At roundabout go straight on (2nd exit)                              
  • At roundabout take 3rd exit - Stamford Road                         
  • At mini roundabout turn right - Catmoss Street                        
  • At mini roundabout (premier blinds) go straight on - High Street          
  •  Through pedestrian traffic lights by Wetherspoons
  • Turn right (before train track) signposted Cottesmore / Grantham - Station Road    
  • After police station turn right - Church Street                          
  • At Wheatsheaf pub turn right - Northgate                            
  • At end of road turn left and then left again into town - Melton Road        
  • Through pedestrian traffic lights by Wetherspoons
  • At mini roundabout turn left signposted Cottesmore - Burley Road         
  • At roundabout turn left - Burley Park Way 
  • At roundabout turn left - Ashwell Road
  • At top of Ashwell Road keep left onto Burley Road
  • At roundabout go left onto Burley Park Way                            
  • At roundabout go straight on (2nd exit) - Burley Park Way                
  • At roundabout go right into Rutland Showground
