Have your say on camping at Rutland Showground at upcoming meeting

A plan has been put forward to provide camping at Rutland Showground.
The proposed campsite would be an addition to the events hosted at the approximately 150 hectare site - 18 of which would be set aside for camping facilities and plots.
The camping would only be for planned events taking place at the showground, such as the annual dog agility event and iconic Rutland County Show, and would generally be limited to two nights.
The hopes are that the addition of the campsite would generate income for the showground, enabling the continued use by local sports clubs and other groups, and prevent such a heavy build up of traffic on the A606 on event days - which can tail back for over two miles.
While many are in favour of the change, the proposal offering alternative events accommodation near the heart of Rutland's County Town, some Rutland residents are wary of the change following a religious festival which took place at the showground in 2021.

As such, a public consultation surrounding the proposal is set to take place on Thursday 18 January 2024.
This will allow residents to hear more about the proposed scheme, and have their say. You can email comments ahead to he meeting to [email protected].
The meeting will take place at Rutland Showground, Showground Way, Oakham, Rutland, LE157TW from 5:30 - 7:30pm on 18 January.
Following this, the final deadline to submit comments is 26 January 2024.
Rutland Agricultural Society then plans to submit a proposal to Rutland County Council later this year, following the assessment of comments made by Rutland residents.
The Council will inform the public when the application has been registered, when official comments can be submitted.
