Heavy rain causes flooding and road closures across Rutland
Today, Tuesday 2 January, Rutland has encountered heavy rain and flooding.
Rutland residents have been impacted by heavy rainfall today, causing some local roads to become nearly impassable, while rivers and bodies of water have burst their banks.
Read on to find out where the flooding has cause chaos for residents and road users.
The A606 through Whitwell has become 'nearly impassable' as the rain continued this afternoon. Since, the road through the village has been closed.
Langham, near to Ranksborough holiday and lodge park has flooded, the water levels rising so high that it has forced a road closure beyond the village heading to Melton Mowbray.
One resident said: "Do not attempt to leave Oakham. I just made it through Manton to get to North Luffenham this afternoon, and heading back, Whitwell is impassable."
Langham, in between Barleythorpe and The Wheatsheaf is also suffering with floods as the field become saturated.
The usual stretch of road in Oakham at the Station Road-Kilburn End junction is also flooded.
The road into Egleton from at A606 is suffering from standing water.
The A6003 passing Manton is barely passable, and the AA have discouraged drivers from taking the route.
The A47 through Morcott is also closed due to flooding.
Slightly further afield, the A47 around Ailsworth is also closed, blocking one of the most direct routes to Peterborough City Hospital.
