A local primary school has flooded following unprecedented rain, and will not be opening today, Wednesday 3 January.

Brooke Hill Academy, an Oakham school and nursery for children aged three to 11, has announced that it will be closing today following yesterday's heavy rain.

School Head, Mrs Anna O’Shaughnessy, said: "We are very sorry but due to severe flooding in school, Brooke Hill will not be opening. We will be in touch throughout the day with regular updates. I am very sorry for any inconvenience caused."

Brooke Hill Academy is on Oakham's Brooke Road, and is one of the many locations impacted by the flooding, which took place across the country yesterday as storm Henk rolled in.

Yesterday, Tuesday 2 January, Rutland encountered heavy rain and flooding across the county.

The A606 through Whitwell was made 'nearly impassable' as the rain continued yesterday, forcing the village main road to be closed.

The Noel Arms in Whitwell was commended for opening to locals and stranded drivers, being located on higher ground and remaining dry.

Langham, near to Ranksborough holiday and lodge park also flooded, as did the A606 between Barleythorpe and The Wheatsheaf.

The usual stretch of road in Oakham at the Station Road-Kilburn End junction also flooded.

The AA discouraged drivers from taking the A6003 route passing Manton.

The A47 through Morcott also closed due to flooding.
