Last week saw record breaking temperatures reached across the UK, with Rutland hitting highs of 38 degrees Celsius.

On top of this, Severn Trent experienced a major incident over the weekend, meaning that a great deal of Oakham households had little to no running water from Friday night through to Monday morning. This limited washing, showering and drinking water supplies.

Find out more about this here.

The partner of an inmate at HMP Stocken contacted us at Oakham Nub News claiming that the inmates had not been provided for during this water shortage.

On the 23rd of July 2023, this anonymous reader wrote: "All prisoners at HMP Stocken have been locked in their cells all day with no running water, to wash or drink, can't even flush toilet. Staff refusing to provide water in bottles. When questioned staff they said it's not their problem! Staff knew about this previously! They were prepared with bottles of water when meds were given out this morning. Once the prisoners realised that there was no water coming out of the taps, they realised why that was the case. That's a disgrace!! You cannot deprive people of water to drink regardless of the weather conditions!!"

HMP Stocken and the Press Office have declined to comment on the accusation, claiming only that it is "untrue".
