In pictures: Farmer's favourite cow rescued from sticky situation in Clipsham

Firefighters from Oakham helped to rescue a cow stuck in mud in Clipsham.

The bovine was discovered in the sticky situation on the edge of a pond off Holywell Road just after 4pm on Sunday (28 June).

Oakham Fire crew arrived first to assess the incident followed by the Technical Rescue Team from Leicester.

A Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "We were informed that a cow was stuck in mud in the middle of a pond.

"Crews arrived at scene and confirmed that one fully-grown cow was stuck in a muddy pond, in approximately four feet of mud, approximately six feet from the bank."

Oakham Fire Station crew manager Adam Johnson takes up the story: "We were there for about three hours and used the large animal rescue equipment from our Technical Rescue Team at Southern Station in Leicester to rescue the cow.

"The cow didn't have a name, but it is the farmer's favourite.

"She was OK when we left."
