The mystery of how a Rutland teenager died in York may be settled next month.

The Coroner's Office for North Yorkshire has confirmed the inquest concerning the death of Sonny Joseph Ferry will take place on Tuesday March 30 at he Merchant Taylors' Hall, Aldwark, near York, at 12.30pm.

Nineteen-year-old Sonny Ferry, from Ketton, fell in the River Foss in York in the early hours of April 13 2019 after a night out and his body was recovered the following day.

He was in the city working as a labourer and his parents Kate and Steve believe their son slipped and fell into the water after leaving a nightclub and becoming lost.

Police did not treat the incident as suspicious, but as Nub News previously reported, Sonny was one of five people to die in York's rivers in a three week period.

A man was arrested and later released concerning the use of Sonny's bank card, as also previously reported by Nub News.

Sonny's parents complained about the conduct of North Yorkshire police in their investigations. The force was cleared of misconduct but lessons were identified.
