Bellway is set to build a collection of 62 new homes in Oakham after buying a plot of land for development.

The house-builder is to deliver the homes on an 8.3-acre site off Braunston Road, to the south west of the town.

The development will feature 43 homes for private sale and 19 properties as affordable housing through rent or shared ownership.

Outline planning consent for the site was granted by Rutland County Council on Tuesday 5 October. Bellway will be submitting detailed plans to the council in the coming weeks.

Phil Standen, Managing Director of Bellway Eastern Counties, said: "This land acquisition is a key step towards us delivering much-needed homes in the Oakham area. We will be liaising closely with Rutland County Council as we finalise our detailed plans for consideration.

"We will be building a mix of homes to cater for a wide range of buyers. Thirty per cent of the homes will be affordable housing to allow local people to live in a new neighbourhood in their town."

Bellway is to provide a public open space and a children's play area on the development.

This will be Bellway's third development in the area over recent years after they built 200 new homes at The Maltings in Barleythorpe and 61 properties at Huntsman Drive in Oakham on the former Parks School site.

Phil said: "We are no strangers to building in Oakham and recognise and appreciate the unique character of the county of Rutland. The development on land south of Braunston Road will create a new gateway into the town.

"The style of the properties will reflect the character of the local area and new green spaces, native woodland planting and wildflower grassland on the development will provide ample opportunity for informal recreation, exercise and play.

"We are very much hoping to secure permission for our detailed plans so we can deliver another thriving neighbourhood in this attractive market town."
