Leicestershire and Rutland Police and Crime Commissioner, Rupert Matthews has visited Ketton Library to discuss crime matters with residents.

Meeting at the designated 'warm space' for the village, Ketton Library hosted about 20 villagers on a bitterly cold December morning who had gathered for tea and cakes and an informal 'chat' with the PCC.

Everything from hare coursing, farm vehicle theft to the newly dedicated Rutland Rural Policing Policy was discussed with villagers who included members of the Parish Council as well interested people who had 'dropped in' for a warming cup of tea or a drop of sherry.

PCC Rupert Matthews said: "I really enjoyed my visit to Ketton. There was a great turnout for the regular lounge meeting in the library organised by the Parish Council. We had an informative chat about events in the village, particularly their feelings about policing and local crime.

"I was delighted that the efforts of our new Rural Crime Team have been noticed and appreciated. The recovery rate for stolen farm vehicles and machinery is truly impressive. My thanks to the Parish Council for organising the event – and for the delicious mince pie that I scoffed!"

Ketton Library was opened by the Parish Council with the support of Rutland County Council on 7 November as a 'warm space', and the councillors have been using social media to promote the lounge

They said: "With the positive support of Rutland County Council, the Parish Council and particularly the Whitebread Trust, a group of volunteers has opened up the library as a lounge to offer a warm, friendly, and happy place to meet together this winter. The lounge is open on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 10am until 4pm.

"These sessions take place when the library is normally closed. Hot drinks and refreshments are being funded by the local charity, The Whitebread Trust, and no payment is required. As we say to our residents: "Don't be on your own! Come along, have a chat and a warm up!"
