Life expectancy of Oakham men ten years longer than neighbouring Northampton Town

In a recently published study by North Northamptonshire Council, the average life expectancy of a man in Corby in ten years less than that of a man in Oakham.
Data from the Office of National Statistics found that men in the Exeter area of Corby had an average life expectancy of 71.9, compared to men in Oakham South living to an average age of 81.8.

Corby Councillor pointed out the disparity between these numbers for areas so close together, saying: 'If you stand at the top of Rockingham Hill and look towards Oakham, people in Oakham live 10 years longer than people in Corby.
'There's something wrong that people who are working class live less on this earth than people who aren't working class.'
In a study published in February 2025 by The Health Foundation, researchers found on average people from more deprived areas have a lower life expectancy, with an average 19-year difference in the life expectancy of the most and least deprived areas.

Almost 25% of people living in Corby live in an area that is deemed as in the top 20% most deprived areas. This number is about 10% in Kettering.
Oakham, on the other hand, is less deprived than 51% of areas in England, with better access to services than 74% of areas in England.
