Lights for Queen Elizabeth II statue win backing of Oakham council
A council has backed plans to light a statue of Queen Elizabeth II.
A controversial statue of the late Queen Elizabeth II is set to be erected in Rutland in 2024, and having donated £5,000 towards to statue - provoking objection from local people - the council have backed an application for LED lights to illuminate the statue at night.
The statue, created by Hywel Pratley, is being installed on a plinth in the grounds of Oakham Library later this year. It will take place of the Oakham in Bloom peacock, which was removed late last year.
'Warm white' LEDs have been chosen as 'the most energy efficient solution' to light the statue at night.
They would be recessed, at the base of the plinth, and point up at the statue.
Oakham Town Council has backed the application, which will now pass to Rutland County Council's planning committee for a decision in February.
