Ovation Wine & Spirit Bar has announced the launch of its taxi service to ensure that customers get home safely.

The team at Ovation, based in Oakham's Gaol Street, will be launching a taxi service this weekend.

Ovation Executive Car Service will be available to customers of the popular wine and spirit bar from Saturday 15 July and is aimed at preventing drinkers from considering driving home if they are unable to get a taxi locally - a problem encountered in rural areas and villages across Rutland.

Only last week, a motion was passed by the British Medical Association (BMA) calling for the drink driving limit in England, Northern Ireland and Wales to be reduced. The BMA has proposed that the allowable amount be cut from 80 micrograms per 100 millilitres of blood, or 35 micrograms per 100 millilitres of breath, to lower levels as seen in other countries, including Scotland.

As such, this timely introduction of a taxi service by Ovation comes as drink-driving is put under scrutiny.

The team shared on social media: "We understand that getting home after a night out can be an absolute nightmare in Oakham, but no more.

"As an Ovation customer, you will have access to this car service for a set fee per trip, depending upon location."
