An Oakham-based brewery has brought back a seasonal favourite as Remembrance Day draws closer.

Every year, The Grainstore Brewery and Tap marks the anniversary of the armistice signed by the Allies of World War I and Germany at Compiègne, France, at 5:45 am. This detailed the cessation of hostilities on the Western Front of World War I, which took effect at eleven in the morning - the "eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month" of 1918 - effectively marking the end of World War I.

This anniversary is marked across the country each year, and holds particular importance in Rutland, where there is a long history of military service, and multiple military bases where local service men and women, and military personnel from across the world, work to protect Great Britain.

The Grainstore is just one of the many local businesses that will be marking the anniversary once again this year, and will be bringing back the 'poppy coloured' beer, 'First & Last', to remember the war efforts, and those who did not make it home.

The team said: "Every year our brewing team commemorate Armistice Day by brewing 'First & Last'.

"A stunning Poppy coloured beer brewed to commemorate the first and last official British casualties of WW1. Private John Parr was killed 17 days after Britain declared war on Germany, whilst Private George Ellison died 90 minutes before the Armistice came into force.

"One of our Pump Clips recently made a trip to France and the Bac Du Sud British Cemetery, Bailleulval of the Pas-De-Calais and later the Somme.

"Available to drink at the Brewery Tap this weekend.

"Lest We Forget."

The patriotic team also host a regular Armed Forces and Veterans Breakfast Club, which is taking place this weekend, Saturday 4 November.
