Local charities unite to provide free 'Souper Space' lunch club for Rutland residents
Two local charities have united this season to bring a new community lunch session to the residents of Rutland.
Pepper' 's - A Safe Place and Root-and-Branch Out have joined forces this month to trial a new 'Souper Space' lunchtime session for those in the local area in need of a warm, hearty meal and some time to socialise and relax.
Together, the charities and a team of enthusiastic volunteers will make soup using surplus vegetables from local supermarkets to provide for free to Oakham locals.
Pippa Gorman, development Manager at Pepper's, said: "All locals are welcome to come along to our 'Souper Space'. You can grab a free, hearty bowl of soup with a bread roll and relax at our warm and welcoming centre. The soup is made from surplus vegetables from local supermarkets and is made into a delicious lunch by our team of volunteers.
"Please do spread the word, we'd love the Souper Space to become a lively community hub in Oakham."
This sessions will take place every Wednesday from 12pm until 2pm at Pepper's - A Safe Place, 2a High Street, Oakham, LE15 6AL. The sessions will commence on Wednesday 15 March.
Pepper's - A Safe Place is a mental health charity with hubs in Oakham and Melton Mowbray, run by friendly volunteers. The team host drop-in sessions and wellbeing activities for any adults who may be struggling with their Mental Health.
Root-and-Branch Out CIC work to engage communities with projects around food and the outdoors, nature and the environment. They offer Forest School, allotment and food growing projects, woodland management, sustainable crafts and surplus food Community Fridges.
