Local charity to help community cook healthy food on a budget
A local charity are helping Rutland residents cook healthy, wholesome food on a budget this Harvest.
Root-and-Branch Out are hosting a 'Cooking on a Budget' taster session on Friday 20 October.
The Rutland-based charity engage communities in projects around food and the outdoors, nature and the environment. They offer a range of activities for children and adults across the county, including Forest School, food growing projects at their Growers Row community allotment, woodland management and sustainable crafts, as well as running their surplus food Community Fridges in Oakham and Uppingham every Friday.
The charity volunteers work with preschools, schools, home educating families, adults of all ages and abilities and the wider community.
A part of this involves supporting members of the local community who are looking for guidance when it comes to sticking to a budget - and a healthy eating plan - in the kitchen.
As such, the team will be hosting their first 'Cooking on a Budget' tester session this Friday.
The session is free to adults aged 19+ who have GCSE Maths to a C grade or equivalent.
Attendees will learn to use basic maths to weigh ingredients, cook meals and compare food prices, as well as accurately follow a recipe to create a nutritious meal on a budget.
Places are limited, so book by emailing [email protected].
