A special sold-out event at Rutland County Museum attracted over 150 visitors to the town.

On Wednesday 12 August, Rutland Museum hosted a sold-out event that attracted over 150 families, children and astronomy enthusiasts to take an 'immersive journey through the universe' in the mobile planetarium.

The planetarium was provided by Explorer Dome, a nationally recognised science outreach organisation that delivers engaging, interactive, presenter-led experiences across the country.

The planetarium combines stunning visuals with expert presenters to make science more accessible, engaging and fun for all ages, being made even more special by coinciding with the partial eclipse on Wednesday evening.

Councillor Rosemary Powell from Rutland County Council said: 'As part of our plans for the redevelopment of Rutland County Museum, we're looking forward to introducing more permanent digital and hands-on attractions that will help visitors engage with our heritage in new and exciting ways.

'These improvements will help ensure the museum continues to inspire curiosity and discovery for generations to come.'

Currently, the application process is underway for the redevelopment of Rutland County Council, hoping to transform the museum into more modern building with a new entrance, cafe, brand-new galleries, immersive digital experiences and multi-use spaces for the community.

This will include spaces for education for during school visits, a versatile arts and theatre space for community use, enhanced displays and interactive exhibits.
