Local Elections 2021: Conservative win for Rutland and Leicestershire Police and Crime Commissioner

Rutland and Leicestershire has a new Police and crime Commissioner.

Conservative Rupert Matthews has been elected after beating his Labour rival by more than 30,000 votes.

Mr Matthews will replace the retiring Lord Willy Bach of the Labour Party.

The final result was:

Rupert Matthews (Con) - 135,566

Ross Willmott (Lab) - 102.211

Conservative majority : 33, 335

Earlier in the count Rupert Matthews falls agonisingly short of winning this on first preferences.

Rupert Matthews (Con) 121252 (49.27%)

James Moore (Lib Dem) 42951 (17.45%)

Ross Willmott (Lab) 81898 (33.28%)

In Rutland, the count was:

Rupert Matthews (Con) - 4,597

James Moore (Lib Dem) - 1,875

Ross Willmott (Lab) - 1,278

When it came to second preferences, after the Liberal Democrat was eliminated, the vote that were transferred was:

Rupert Matthews (Con) - 647

Ross Willmott (Lab) - 909
