A local electrician has set up a free monthly newsletter sharing energy saving and safety advice after he received huge support form the local community for providing his services free for a local pensioner.

Steve Spoor, a local electrician at Multi Electrical Services Ltd, was inspired to become more involved with helping and supporting the Oakham community by an experience he had in early September:

Steve shared on social media that he had provided his services free for a 91 year-old resident who had been without hot water for over a fortnight. Little did he know that the local community would show such support for this kind gesture, and many rushed to compliment Steve for his community-mindedness.

Steve explained: "We don't usually work weekends without prior arrangement, but when Fiona called on Saturday morning about her 91 year old friend who had been without hot water for two and a half weeks we couldn't resist!

"Tony is in rented accommodation and couldn't get the help he needed! He shouldn't be paying privately for any works on the property. We arrived within the hour of the call and set straight to work! Within the hour Tony had his hot water problem sorted and had a good old chat!

"Lovely meeting you Tony! Enjoy your hot water repair on us."

Over 150 people reacted to the post on social media, praising Steve for giving up his time to help the community.

This inspired Steve to continue with his community-focused approach.

Steve said: "After the huge positive response I received from people on social media regarding a free of charge job I did for a pensioner without hot water I thought it would be a great idea to start up a free newsletter which will offer advice on a range of issues and give local people the chance to help each other .

"With what seems like the world going mad, I thought it would be nice to all stick together and offer advice where we can.

"Feel free to offer any content that others may find helpful or if you have any questions then please get in touch."
