Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service has declared a major incident across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland with severe flooding affecting the region.

The service has shared that they have already received over 200 emergency calls and crews have rescued 17 people so far. They have also attended a lot of incidents involving stranded vehicles, flooded homes and rising water levels, though the exact number has not yet been published.

Affected areas are constantly changing, but as of 10am the following places were reported by Rutland and Stamford Sounds as seeing major problems:

The Fire and Rescue Service recommends that local people avoid driving where possible and avoid driving or walking through flood water as this can be dangerous.

They are encouraging people to stay up to date with the most recent information, news and weather updates in order to plan safe routes.

For those affected by flooding, turn off electricity, gas and water in the home and move sentimental and valuable items upstairs/raised off the ground where possible.

At times like this it is also important to check on vulnerable neighbours or people within the community that may be at risk.

For advice, contact Floodline by calling 03459881188 or texting 03456026340. This is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

There is also advice by Rutland County Council about flooding which can be found on their website.
