A local mental health charity is in search of volunteers to supported their hub in neighbouring Melton Mowbray.
Pepper's- A Safe Place runs friendly and welcoming drop-in sessions and wellbeing activities for any adults who may be struggling with their Mental Health in both Oakham and Melton Mowbray.
All adults are welcome to come and take a break, socialise, combat isolation, have fun and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee.
Pepper's - A Safe Place has been open for nearly 4 years, offering drop-in sessions for any adults struggling with their mental health or loneliness.
Development Manager, Pippa Gorman, said: "Loneliness is something that I'm sure we have all struggled with, especially throughout the pandemic. But many live with it everyday. We want to bring the community together, with a shared, safe and welcoming space for all, to chat, socialise, have fun and be less alone."
Pippa added: "Our sessions are open to all adults, you can take some time out in a relaxed environment, chat with others, have fun or just relax with a cup of tea.
"We encourage anyone in the community to come and have a chat with us during our market stalls or to pop into one of our sessions during the week. Even if it's not for you, it may be that a friend or family member would benefit from that social, relaxed and safe space that Pepper's can provide."
With the Oakham hub becoming a successful and lively centre tackling isolation and supporting wellbeing, the team are in the throes of growing their sister centre in Melton.
The team shared on social media: "We’re looking for empathetic and friendly locals to support us as we grow our centre in Melton.
"We’re currently looking for volunteers who may be free on a Wednesday from 11am until 1pm as we trial a new drop-in session.
"The volunteers that support us during sessions need to be great listeners, friendly and welcoming. You do not need to have experience in a mental health field but having empathy towards others is a really important trait.
"If you’re interested in supporting us at the new drop-in, with other activities we may hold in the future or through marketing or events, please do get in touch. We’d love to hear from you."
Email Jenny on [email protected] for more information, adding a message to let the team know when you may be available and why you’re interested.
