A local mental health and wellbeing charity has been reflecting on 2023 as Christmas draws near and 2024 ushers in both new opportunities and challenges.
Pepper's- A Safe Place runs friendly and welcoming drop-in sessions and wellbeing activities for any adults who may be struggling with their Mental Health.
All adults are welcome to come and take a break, socialise, combat isolation, have fun and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee.
In 2024, Pepper's- A Safe Place will be entering its 6th year, and is ever-growing, offering drop-in sessions for adults struggling with their mental health or loneliness.
Development Manager, Pippa Gorman, said: "Our sessions are open to all adults, you can take some time out in a relaxed environment, chat with others, have fun or just relax with a cup of tea.
"We encourage anyone in the community to come and have a chat with us during our market stalls or to pop into one of our sessions during the week. Even if it's not for you, it may be that a friend or family member would benefit from that social, relaxed and safe space that Pepper's can provide."
"We have welcomed our new staff member, Jenny, who has taken on the role of managing and growing our Melton Centre; our members have helped to create a beautiful community garden space at Oakham Fire Station- supporting them with their poppy display and Christmas Shoebox appeal; members have taken part in several therapeutic activities from chair yoga to meditation, tai chi to crafts and art workshops and we’ve had the pleasure of welcoming over 100 locals to our centres, offering them a safe and welcoming space, free from judgements, pressure or expectations.
"After seeing the huge benefits this year, a key goal for us in 2024 will be to host several training opportunities - including life skills, energy saving tips for members and first aid, listening skills and managing vulnerable adults for our brilliant team of volunteers.
"As you will know, the drive and inspiration for establishing Pepper's over 5 years ago came from our founder Judith Gilboy. Judith has been a true inspiration and without her dedication, vision and can do approach Peppers would not be here today.
"Judith decided earlier this year that it was time to take a small step back, and pass the role of Chairperson over to another. I’m delighted to say that she remains completely committed to Pepper's continuing not only her often daily involvement, but as a Trustee and additionally taking on the role of our Protection Officer.
"I was delighted to be asked to join the team at Peppers and take on the role as Chair and look forward to meeting with you over the coming months. In the meantime we thank you for your wonderful support, donations, referrals and promoting what we do and offer our members. We are grateful for you being part of us and look forward to an exciting 2024 together!
"Wishing you and your loved ones a wonderful Christmas and a very happy New Year."
Find Pepper's- A Safe Place at 2a Oakham High Street, Rutland.
The Oakham hub will be closed for the Christmas break from Monday 25 December until Wednesday 3 January, with their last session taking place on Thursday 21 December.
