On 26 January 2023, the local musical theatre group, Rutland Musical Theatre (RMT) were joined by the real 'Charlie Price' for a rehearsal of their upcoming musical, Kinky Boots, at The Corby Cube.

Based on the 2005 British film Kinky Boots, written by Geoff Deane and Tim Firth and mostly inspired by true events, Kinky Boots the musical tells the story of Charlie Price.

Having inherited a shoe factory in Northampton from his father which is on the verge of bankruptcy, Charlie forms an unlikely partnership with cabaret performer and drag queen Lola to produce a line of high-heeled boots and save the business. In the process, Charlie and Lola discover that they are not so different after all.

Following their triumphant debut performance at the Core Theatre with their acclaimed production of Fiddler on the Roof last year, Rutland Musical Theatre are proud to present the heart-warming and hugely popular upcoming production, with the support of the real life Charlie Price, Steve Pateman, who has joined the group at a recent rehearsal and will be attending the production in April.

Steve Pateman joined the group for a rehearsal at The Corby Cube and spoke to the enthusiastic local am-dram group about his story and how it became a smash-hit musical.

Winner of six Tony Awards including Best Musical, Kinky Boots features a joyous score by Cyndi Lauper and is a sure-fire crowd-pleaser that will have audiences dancing in the aisle and discovering why sometimes, the best way to fit in is to stand out!

The production will take place at The Corby Cube from Wednesday 6 April to Saturday 8 April 2023.
