Looking to try something new in 2025? Volunteer Rutland shares why volunteering should be your new year’s resolution
Whether you are into making new year's resolutions or not, getting stuck into volunteering in 2025 could be the perfect way to try something new.
Volunteer Plus Rutland is looking out for volunteers to support local groups and give back to the community. Volunteer Plus works with Citizens Advice Rutland and the Rutland Volunteer and Community Sector Network is a vibrant and supportive network helping to connect voluntary and community organisations with individuals looking to make a real change in the county.
Rutland has a huge array of groups, organisations and charities that provide local services and activities within the community, all with the help of volunteers. From sports clubs to youth groups, litter picking to charity shops, community transport to supporting the elderly, these organisations can only survive with volunteers giving their time.
In a National Survey in 2023, it was shown that the main people volunteer is to improve things in their local community, help people who access the activities or services provided by community groups.
There are also great benefits to the volunteers too, including developing skills and adding new things to their CV or experience. Volunteering also gives people the opportunity to meet and connect with people within the community.
Volunteering also comes in many forms and can be done in many different ways. It could be working in a charity shop for set hours every week, giving evenings to support a local guide group, doing admin or online support from home or helping at an event just once or twice a year. This means that it can fit any lifestyle or availability.
