Lord-Lieutenant of Rutland

I am delighted to welcome another means of getting local news! So well done Nub News and long may you continue. We are lucky enough to have great local sources of news in Rutland and you are a welcome and needed addition.

I believe that local news gives a much more encouraging and accurate picture of local real community life than national news.

National media concentrate on what changes. However, that means that whilst death, disaster and destruction make headlines the things that make up our everyday life and stitch our society together rarely make the news.

They do in local news channels. It is here we see some tributes to the masses of voluntary activity, and the kindness and concern for others shown by both professionals and volunteers.

Without people quietly working away for the good of all our lives would be very different.

We have a fabulous radio station, Rutland Radio. (Has anyone else wondered whether lovely Rob Persani has cloned himself he gets everywhere!) Great local magazines, Rutland Living and Pride and others and the Rutland Times. There are various Rutland bloggers.

However, Nub News gives the opportunity to post about matters of local interest and even write our own articles! I think that it is important that we can hear from many sources about what goes on locally - and so much of it is good.

As Lord-Lieutenant and Her Majesty's representative in Rutland I am her eyes and ears. My job is in part to try and ensure that unsung local heroes who do so much to make our communities better places get recognition.

Do please contact me with details of anyone who has done long great altruistic service. [email protected]
