Major two-vehicle crash near Oakham causes 'immense' damage and disruption

Images show the wreckage left after a major crash near Oakham yesterday (February 24) morning.
Rutland Police shared the photographs after a car and a bin lorry crashed at the Exton turn of the Greetham Road, just outside Cottesmore.
Nobody was hurt in the incident and locals were thanked for their patience as the roads remained closed for a long time after the incident.
"Very luckily nobody was injured here, but the amount of damage and disruption caused was pretty immense, and took a number of services to deal with," a statement on social media from PC McKinnon said.

"My thanks go out to the fire and rescue service, Crouch Recovery and Biffa, who all worked quickly to make everything safe and get the road up and running again.
"Collisions like this serve as a timely reminder that it's not always excessive speed that causes accidents.
"Sure nobody was hurt, but this could of so very easily been a different outcome.
"Thanks for everyone's patience whilst PC Friedland and I sorted this one out, we know how disruptive road closures can be and we always try to keep them on only for as long as they absolutely need to be."
