A man from Fengate, Peterborough, has been sentenced following a garden centre theft in Rutland.

A man was detained on 2 July following a report of theft from a garden centre in Great Casterton.

Police were called shortly after 1pm following a report that staff at the garden centre had detained a man who had stolen specialist gamekeeper clothing worth more than £2,700.

Derek Lundgren, 59, was subsequently charged with theft from a shop, as well as possession of a controlled class B drug.

Following this, at Leicester Magistrates' Court, Lundgren was sentenced to 18 weeks' imprisonment.

PC Jake Spruce, the Dedicated Neighbourhood Officer for Rutland North, said: "Thanks to the good work by staff at the garden centre, Lundgren was apprehended immediately.

"We fully understand the impact that shoplifting can have on our local businesses and we take such reports extremely seriously.

"I hope today's outcome will provide some positive reassurance to our local community."
