The team from an award-winning care home in Uppingham have climbed Ben Nevis in support of a Rutland-based charity.

Lucy Sharratt and Aggie Sykes from Wisteria House Residential Home in Uppingham hiked up Ben Nevis to raise funds for end-of-life support in Rutland. Lucy and Aggie successfully completed the tough, but spectacular hike up Ben Nevis to raise over £2,000 in support of Dying Matters in Rutland.

Residents of Wisteria House were thrilled by their success in climbing Britain's highest mountain for such a good cause.

Margaret Tomalin, a resident of Wisteria House, said: "We are so proud of Lucy and Aggie for doing this for such a good cause. There are many elderly people in Rutland like us, and we are glad the funds are going to Dying Matters in Rutland which supports them and their families"

Lucy commented. "Well, what can I say.... the hardest hike ever, but we made it to the summit. There was sweat, tears, laughter and a whole lot of positive mindsets to complete this. Very grateful to have the support from friends and family walking with us. Thanks to all who sponsored and donated."

Receiving the cheque on Monday, Jennifer Fenelon, Chair of Dying Matters in Rutland together with Trustees, Dr Hilary Fox and Tracy Moores said. "We warmly congratulate Lucy and Aggie on such an impressive effort and we were delighted they made it to the top. That challenge is not for the fainthearted. Their efforts have put a spotlight on services for Rutland's elderly people and the donation will be used to support Rutland people preparing for the end of their lives"

Richard Cole, High Sheriff of Rutland, who attended the handover ceremony, said: "This is the Rutland people supporting others in our community in a most impressive way. We should all be very proud "
