The Crown Tavern will be hosting round two of a charity quiz night in support of a local runner who will be taking part in the London Marathon later this year.

Samantha Rodgers, a Rutland resident and local at The Crown Tavern, is taking on the London Marathon in April 2024 in honour of her brother, who has been supported by Mencap throughout his life.

As a part of her fundraising efforts, Sam is getting ready to host round two of her fundraising quiz nights at The Crown Tavern, affectionately known by locals as 'The Tav', with the help of the venue's popular Landlady, Lindsay.

The local pub team, with the support of enthusiastic patrons, hosted another charity quiz night in December, and the event raised over £600.

The London Marathon is an annual marathon held in England's capital city. It is the second-largest annual road race in the UK, after the Great North Run in Newcastle, and sees nearly 50,000 runners tackle a 26.2 mile course for a wide range of charities.

All funds raised through her participation in the Marathon and these fundraising quiz nights will go to Samantha's chosen charity, Mencap.

The Royal Mencap Society is a charity based in the United Kingdom that works with people with learning disabilities.

Established in 1946, the charity's vision continues to be for the UK to be the best place in the world for people with learning disabilities to live happy and healthy lives.

Landlady Lindsay shared her thanks after the success of the last quiz night: "Thank you all for a very successful quiz night for another good cause, Mencap, in honour of Samantha running the Marathon in 2024. A total of £619 was raised which is amazing. Thank you to all for attending and donating and all local businesses and people for their prizes."
