6th Dec 2020 | Local News

A group of migrants jumped out of a lorry yesterday whilst it was parked by the A1 in Rutland.

Oakham Police tweeted last night: "Laurie and I attended the A1 earlier after reports of people jumping out of a lorry in a rest area.

"Driver from #Romania distraught. The people who ran off had cut a hole in roof to gain access and cross the channel."

In a further tweet, Oakham Police said they were unable to catch any of the migrants.

"This isn't unusual. They bomburst and generally get picked up after calling people they know here. A thorough search of the A1 was completed."

No other details were given.
