Be aware: Rutland road flooding update

By The Editor 7th Nov 2019

Hambleton Road in Egleton - at its junction with the A6003 - was closed earlier today due to flooding.

The road later reopened, with motorists being urged to drive safely.

Heavy rainfall also brought disruption to other routes.

Main Street, Whissendine and Cow Lane, Whissendine, were both closed.

Standing water on roads in Tixover was also causing issues at 5.30pm.

Rutland County Council closed the road in Egleton after the river burst its banks due to the quantity of water flowing off fields and from a broken culvert, which is being investigated.

Council officers are being deployed in the village with sandbags to protect the road and residents are being urged to call highways on 01572 758297 if they feel their property is at risk of flooding.

Rutland County Council will continue to update as more information is made available.

The council's highways team will continue to monitor roads and water levels throughout the night.
