Donations to the High Sheriffs of Rutland's chosen children's' charities have been made at a recent Rutland Sinfonia concert, raising over £400 for good causes.

Rutland Sinfonia is delighted to announce that, following its recent sell out Movies & Musicals! Concert at Oakham School Chapel, a total of £420 was raised in support of local charities aimed at helping young people in and around the area.

Featuring popular songs from Star Wars, The Sound of Music, James Bond, Harry Potter and much much more, the evening was a 'hit', welcoming residents of all ages from across the county.

The concert, conducted by David Calow and featuring Rutland resident and talented leader, Katherine Collison, hosted a retiring collection for the High Sheriff of Rutland's chosen children's charities.

The High Sheriff of Rutland, Geraldine Feehally, has been in office for nearly one year - the length of time that the Royal appointment lasts.

Formal responsibilities include attending Royal visits to the county, acting as a returning officer for parliamentary elections, proclaiming the accession of a new Sovereign and attending ceremonial and community functions.

Having been appointed in March 2023, Mrs Feehally has attended a range of events, from concerts and fundraisers to charity functions in Aid of local charities that she is heavily involved with, including Hope into Action

This most recent concert supported local young people - a cause that Geraldine is incredibly passionate about, having been a teacher for many years before her appointment at Rutland's High Sheriff.

She works with local groups, such as the locally renowned Rutland Sinfonia, who put on a number of concerts throughout the year.

The amateur orchestra based in Oakham is over 40 years old, but the passionate group of musicians still aim to bring high quality, enjoyable and inspiring performances of orchestral music to smaller towns and villages in rural areas in and around Rutland.

The Sinfonia presents imaginative programmes of music for medium to large orchestra, with popular classical works, lesser known pieces, solo works and music from the Movies and Musicals.

Following their recent sell-out event, the team at Rutland Sinfonia said: "We would like to thank everyone for their generosity."
