MP for Rutland and Stamford has once again issued a warning that Rutland's ceremonial status is not yet safe.

Alicia Kearns has spoken about Rutland's future, saying 'Rutland's Ceremonial County status remains at risk.'

She has highlighted that Rutland is not on its own in the struggle to keep its status amid Local Government Reorganisation, with Kearns citing several UK cities that will be reverted to towns unless 'action is taken.'

Kearns says she has confirmed with a minister that Canterbury, Winchester, Stoke-on-Trent, Chelmsford and Southend-on-Sea could all lose their ceremonial status as a city in local government reorganisation.

'We've been campaigning now for 18 months, I'll keep fighting,' says Kearns. 'I'm sorry other communities are facing challenges, but I hope having more people affected forces the Government to take action to resolve the issue they've created, I just wish others had realised earlier.'
