Motorists are being advised of two temporary road closures that will be put in place on A6003 between Oakham and Corby during the month of October.

On Tuesday 10 and Wednesday 11 October (weather permitting) the A6003 through Preston village will be closed so that work to install new highway signage and road markings can be carried out safely. A local diversion will be in place via the A47, A43, A1 and A606 for traffic travelling from the direction of Uppingham to Oakham. Buses travelling through Preston during this time will be allowed through to minimise any disruption to the service.

In addition to this, London Road in Uppingham will be closed from Monday 23 to Friday 27 October so that repairs can be made to a pedestrian barrier near Uppingham Community College. The diversion route for traffic heading from Oakham to Corby will be via the A47, A43 and A427.

Diversions must follow roads that have the same classification as the one being closed. They are needed to make sure heavy goods vehicles and other traffic are not directed along unsuitable routes, such as roads with weight restrictions.

While the London Road section of the A6003 in Uppingham is closed, the R1 bus will be diverted from North Street East, via Seaton Road to Lyddington. Anyone wishing to use this service who would normally catch the bus between North Street East and Lyddington will need to use the designated bus stop on North Street East.

For the return journey from Corby to Melton, the bus will follow the reverse route and will collect passengers for all stops from Uppingham to Melton Mowbray on the opposite side of the road on North Street East (Co-op side). Bus drivers will be keeping an eye out for anyone waiting at the usual bus stop.

Rutland County Council and its contractors will be working to complete these highway improvements as quickly as possible and are committed to keeping local roads, paths, and highways safe. The Council apologises in advance for any inconvenience caused by these works.
