A new art gallery has opened in Uppingham, and has already seen a successful start to the New Year.

Owner of The Rutland Gallery, John Jolley, has spoken with Oakham Nub News about the new venture, what the new space offers, and how it is adding to the vibrant art and decor scene in and around the local area.

Mr Jolley said: "We opened The Rutland Gallery just before Christmas on the 15 December 2022. I have been delighted with the reception that we have received from both the visitors to the gallery and the many established art galleries within the town."

John Jolley has been running online art galleries for the last four years, and said "it was a natural progression to open a physical gallery space.

"I live with my family just outside of Uppingham and as the town is renowned for its art galleries it made sense to open The Rutland Gallery within the town."

Uppingham and Oakham have a huge range of art galleries, including Goldmark Gallery, Peter Barker Fine Art, The Queen Street Gallery, Woodbine Contemporary Arts, and now The Rutland Gallery. Oakham brags names such as Trent Galleries and Gladwell's, as well as being home to a range of exhibitions at Rutland Museum and Victoria Hall, so John said it was a natural place to open another gallery and continue building the profile of Rutland as an artist's and art lover's paradise.

He explained: "There are seven or eight galleries within Uppingham and as a consequence people travel from all over the country to visit the galleries."

The Rutland Gallery is proud to bring a frequent rotation of contemporary artwork, ensuring that there is always something new to see when you drop in.

Mr Jolley added: "We have new contemporary artwork in the gallery every couple of weeks so there is always something new for visitors to the gallery to see. We are also planning on holding regular art exhibitions in the coming months."
