New Arts Collective Gallery Opens in Oakham's Victoria Hall

By The Editor 17th Jun 2021

A new art concept has recently opened in the gallery at Victoria Hall on the High Street in Oakham, with an eclectic mix of international and local work.

The concept is from local business man, Peter Jones and local artist, Stephen Wigmore. The Arts Collective will be a collection of beautiful art, which is for sale as well as art workshops, demonstrations and with the addition of live music. Whilst browsing, you are also invited to have a tinkle on the piano!

The Arts Collective will also be hosting a regular 'Featured Artist' the first of these will be local artist, Paul Meakins from Melton Mowbray. Paul paints and sells his own bold and beautiful work, both originals and prints.

Following on from Paul, the second featured artist will be Rose Thorn, who also lives locally in Oakham and produces stunning work which again is bold and beautiful!

The third, but by no means last, is Joe Burchell. His work is visceral and authentic. As a survivor of a brain tumour, he has an interesting story. Stephen will also be displaying some of his own eclectic and varied work.

Another addition to The Arts Collective offerings will be the opportunity to browse and buy some outstanding vinyl every Saturday, courtesy of The Piano Café, Gaol Street.

Of course, there should also be mention to their lovely friend and fellow artist in ceramics Connie Taylor. Connie has already opened her wonderful Manufactory at Victoria Hall, also open Wednesday to Saturday. Her beautiful pottery pieces are for sale, and she will also be running workshops and demonstrations.

Soon, there will be art and musical open evenings, keep alert with dates and times on their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/ArtsCollectiveVictoriaHall. They are excited to have secured their first fantastic booking starring, Pembroke Tenneson, a wonderful musician, and a friend of The Arts Collective. Pembroke performs originals and covers; you may have seen him play at The Grainstore.

To complete the new look on the ground floor at Victoria Hall, there are also some beautiful antique pieces for sale, including lamps, mirrors, and occasional tables.

Peter said, 'These are exciting times again at Victoria Hall, with other changes moving forward with Rutland Kino, we are hopeful that some of The Arts Collective project might even be incorporated.'

Stephen, who is front of house at the gallery, added, 'The Arts Collective aims to be an inclusive and inspiring place for all interested in the arts. There will be workshops, classes, exhibitions and concerts. Feel free to come and browse or even pick up a brush and have a paint. Opening hours are Wednesday to Saturday 10 am- 5pm. Keep an eye out for our featured artists and for any upcoming concerts."
