A local author and conservationist is launching his new book, The Osprey, at a Rutland Water event this week.

Join the team for the book launch of The Osprey by Tim Mackrill, the latest in Bloomsbury's Poyser series, at The Anglian Water Bird Watching Centre at Rutland Water Nature Reserve, Egleton, Oakham.

The title joins his two other books, The Rutland Water Ospreys and Spotlight Ospreys.

Tim currently leads the work of the Roy Denns Wildlife Foundation, his work including the reintroduction of White-tailed Eagles and Ospreys.

Prior to this, he managed the Rutland Osprey Project for more than ten years, having first got involved as a volunteer when he was 15 years old - when the team launched the local project to relocate Ospreys from the Scottish breeding population to Rutland.

He is passionate about inspiring and enabling young conservation leaders, which, combined with the experience he gained at Rutland Water, encouraged him to set-up the Osprey Leadership Foundation in 2018.

He completed a PhD on Osprey migration in 2016, and has travelled widely in West Africa to study Ospreys.

Now, he is getting ready to launch his new book, The Osprey.

The launch event is set to take place on 29 February from 6:30pm, and tickets can be purchased online.

There will be drinks and light refreshments on arrival, a talk by Tim on his work with Ospreys, and an opportunity to buy a signed copy of the book.

All proceeds from ticket sales will go to the Osprey Leadership Foundation, the charity set-up by Tim which aims to inspire and enable young conservation leaders.

If you can't make the Rutland Water Nature Reserve launch event, there will be another opportunity to hear from Dr Tim Mackrill at the online launch on 1 March. Find out more here.
