Rutland screen writer to attend local screening of hit war film and host Q & A
Cinema for Rutland presents The Great Escaper, showing on 7 March 2024 at Rutland County Museum.
Cinema for Rutland, a sub-section of Arts for Rutland, hosts monthly cinema evenings at the local museum, showing film classics and new releases, and everything in between.
This month, the team are showing The Great Escaper, a 2023 film starring Michael Caine and Glenda Jackson. The story is based on the true story of 89-year-old RN WW II veteran Bernard Jordan, who left his nursing home in Sussex to attend the 70th anniversary of the D-Day commemorations in France in June 2014.
After the screening, a special guest will join the event for a short question and answer session.
William Ivory, writer of the film's screenplay, will be answering questions at the short Q & A after the film. Mr Ivory, from Rutland, is a three-time Bafta-nominee and won awards for hit film Made in Dagenham.
He will be joined by representatives from the Veterans Association, who will also be in attendance.
The Veterans Association is a charity set up to give back to the men and women who have put their lives on the line to protect our families and way of life.
They join Arts for Rutland in an evening of celebration and remembrance, enabled by the local arts and appreciation charity.
Arts for Rutland is a Registered Charity committed to leading, promoting and supporting the arts in Rutland. It consists of a small volunteer committee that aims to be representative of the county's arts organisations and various creative disciplines.
Tickets for the upcoming event are available on WeGotTickets or from Oakham Wines.
