A brand new Rutland Community Fridge will be launching in Greetham this weekend.
Following the expansion of the scheme in Oakham last month, another Community Fridge will be opening in Greetham on Saturday 27 April 2024.
The fridge is hosted by Root-and-Branch Out CIO, a local food and education charity working towards supporting residents and young people across Rutland.
The project sees volunteers collect food waste from local shops, bakeries and businesses for the local community to collect on a pay-as-you-feel basis.
The team host one fridge in Uppingham and two in Oakham, and are expanding to Greetham this weekend.
They shared the news on social media: "Join us for the launch of the Greetham Community Fridge at St. Mary's Church on Saturday 27 April.
"Drop in for some good surplus food, and help save good food from landfill. Open from 10am until 11.30am at St. Mary's Church, Church Lane LE15 7NF."
The fridge will be open on alternate Saturdays from 10am - 11.30am:
- 27 April
- 11 May
- 25 May
- 8 June
- 29 June
- 13 July
- 27 July
More dates are to follow.
Residents can continue to use the Oakham Community Fridges, which run from Oakham Station on a Friday from 10 - 11:30am and Victoria Hall every Wednesday from 5:30pm - 7pm, and the Uppingham Fridge, which can be found at Uppingham Town Hall from 1:30 - 3pm every Friday.
The team concluded: "Thanks to the Community Organisations Cost of Living Fund (CCLF) Government funding, delivered by The National Lottery Community Fund, has helped us expand the Rutland Community Fridges project."
