A council will buy new dog poo and litter bins for Uppingham.

Rutland County Council had agreed to buy the new dog poo and litter bins for Tod's Piece, the open space in the centre of Uppingham, while Uppingham Town Council agreed that it would pay for the new bins .

However, Uppingham town clerk, Sharon Coe, was shocked to hear confirmation that Rutland County Council are not able to now do this on the land, which is privately owned.

Mrs Coe said: "I have expressed my anger, but I have duly got on with the ordering through a different channel, and I will arrange fitting when the order arrives."

A spokesperson for Rutland County Council said the initial request for the bins to be installed in Gainsborough Road, which it is land it owns, but it does not own Tod's Piece.

"Rutland County Council only installs bins on land that it owns or manages," the spokesperson added.
