A bid to build new employment units on the site of the former Essendine Hotel has been given the go-ahead.

Bourne-based Alexander Property Group has secured planning permission from Rutland County Council for change of use of the site in to develop a new office, warehouse and light industrial units.

A statement submitted to the council by planning agents Glaston-based Smithers Purslow stated: "The site is proposed to be developed by Switchserve, a family owned business, operating since 1991, specialising in providing, installing, maintaining and modifying low voltage switchgear.

"There will be no manufacturing on site as part of this company's use.

"The site previously developed as a hotel, has the opportunity to be developed to create employment opportunities inside Rutland, by creating additional units for other businesses to use the site, whilst also creating an opportunity to support further growth of the company."
