A new escape room experience opens in Oakham next month...and it's a real family affair.

The Angell family - along with help from hands-on friends - are launching One Way Out in Long Row on July 19.

The business is the brainchild of Tessa Angell, from Belton, who refers to it as her 'baby' as the idea was first conceived on holiday in Bodmin, Cornwall, nine months ago.

While Tessa has been spent every spare minute painting and 'creating intrigue', son Fred has helped with all the digital wizardry and daughter Molly, a midwife in Nottingham, will be playing the role of part-time game master.

Even Tessa's husband Geoff, formerly parish priest in various Rutland churches, has been a 'slightly reluctant convert' to the escape room enterprise but, like their two children, 'has been a hands-on practical and loving support'.

Friends have also had a key role to play. One of Tessa's creative childhood friends has built the sets while others have helped fold and deliver leaflets advertising the new enterprise.

The newly-launched One Way Out website says: "Tessa Angell is celebrating retirement, thirty years married and a new baby...One Way Out Escape Rooms.

"The idea was conceived in October whilst playing her first escape game ever, in Cornwall on holiday, and suddenly it seemed that everything in her life to date had been leading up to this moment.

"Working with people, teaching in schools, organising events, devising treasure hunts, geocaching, even a spell of decorative painting, have all stood her in good stead to create the One Way Out experiences.

"And nine months on, the birth is upon us."

One Way Out will open on July 19, initially with one 60-minute escape room entitled Gas Alert! - drawing on Tessa's experiences as a science teacher for many years.

Players will be trapped in the laboratory of eccentric scientist Professor Wotamesser and need to find the antidote to a spilled evil-smelling gas, complete the science experiments and then escape before the professor returns to discover who has messed up her life's work.

The second 60-minute room - Framed! - is scheduled to open by August and will be a classic whodunnit when birthday boy and musician Charlie Lagami is discovered dead...but has left clues to his attacker's identity.

Players will need to reveal the culprit and escape before the detectives arrive.

As well as the escape rooms there will be a reception area and Puzzle Room for free taster games and things to play while guests are waiting.

One Way Out will open daily - except for Tuesdays - from 10am to 9pm, and is suitable for all ages from 10 years old upwards.
