Rutland County Council is opening a new Carers Hub at its offices in Oakham to provide face-to-face advice and support for carers of all ages.

A carer is anyone that looks after a friend or family member who, due to illness, disability, mental health or an addiction, can not cope without their support.

Carers do not get paid for the support they provide and Rutland County Council is keen to make sure those in Rutland know about the help and assistance that is available to them locally.

Councillor Alan Walters, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health at Rutland County Council, said: "Carers do a huge amount to look after friends and loved ones and often don't realise that they themselves are entitled to help and advice.

"Our new Carers Hub is a comfortable, quiet space away from the home for carers of all ages to come and get the support they need.

"We want to help carers plan for the future by making them aware of their rights and letting them know where they can get support. If you're a carer living in Rutland, I'd encourage you to come along and speak to us."

The new Carers Hub at Rutland County Council's Catmose offices will open on Thursday (13 June) as part of Carers Week 2019.

Carers can contact the Council and arrange to meet someone from Rutland's Carers Team by calling 01572 758249 or emailing [email protected].

Alternatively, they can pop in at any time to pick up information about the various support services available to them in Rutland. This includes access to Rutland's Admiral Nurses for anyone caring for a friend or family member with dementia.

Rutland County Council funds two specialist Admiral Nurses trained and developed by Dementia UK. Since the service was first launched in 2017, Rutland's Admiral Nurses have helped more than 150 people with dementia, their families and carers.
