The Chairman of Rutland Agricultural Society has apologised for 'the inadequacy of effective car parking and traffic management' at this year's Rutland Show.

In a statement on Rutland Show Facebook page, David Wood acknowledged the event had been 'marred for many people' by traffic queues to get into the show and 'real gridlock issues' for those leaving.

Mr Wood said the society, which organises the annual show, will be undertaking 'a radical review' of access to the Oakham showground with the hope of opening another point of entry and exit.

The full statement says: "We had a fabulous Rutland Show this year with many improvements and many more visitors.

"Unfortunately this success was marred for many people by considerable traffic movement queues on entry during late morning but most particularly by real gridlock issues for people leaving from the car park during the afternoon and at the end of the day.

"Given the very high standard we now present inside the show itself, this is situation is absolutely not acceptable.

"I have also been given to understand that in a number of cases visitors were not shown the normal courtesy that the Society expects in our dealings with visitors and members.

"On behalf of the Trustees and the Show Management Team, I can only apologise for the inadequacy of effective car parking and traffic management for this year's Show when we are dealing with increasing numbers of people.

"We will [be] undertaking a radical review of the access points to the site and hope to open up another entrance for exit and entry as well as widening the car park openings. We will also be reviewing the way our car park team manage the the layout and traffic flows on the day.

We are determined to deliver better parking arrangements to support what is becoming a more successful and enjoyable Show. We do hope to welcome you back next year."
