Following the deeply sad news that one of this year's osprey chicks was found dead on the shoreline of Rutland Water this week, Oakham Veterinary Hospital have confirmed 'no foul play involved.'

On 7th July, Rutland Osprey Project shared that one of this year's chicks, named 3R6, was found by one of their team deceased on the shoreline of Rutland Water with a wound on his left side below the neck.

The team sent 3R6 to Oakham Veterinary Hospital for x-rays to try and determine the cause of death and have since confirmed that 'no foul play' was involved.

They have also arranged a full post-mortem to be carried out at the University of Nottingham's veterinary pathology service to get greater clarity on the cause of death to hopefully protect the remaining ospreys from future harm.
