Students at Harington School are celebrating outstanding A Level results today, with over 40% of all grades achieved at A*-A standard.

This year, A Level grades were based on teacher assessments due to the significant disruption to learning due to the covid pandemic.

John Harrison, Head of School, said; "I am really proud of the achievements of all our students who have worked closely with the teaching staff over the last two years to achieve some really impressive results.

"Staff worked tirelessly to ensure that students received excellent support throughout their time at the school. Students are now entering into a really

diverse range of courses in which I am sure they will excel".

Eleven students (Alice Burton, Daniel Law, William Marsh, Oliver Nash, Sasha Newby, Adam O'Brien, Holly Perril, Spencer Sampson, Jenny Sharpe, Sevede Tavasli, Bethany Treadwell) all achieved at least three A* in their subjects.

The school says this is an incredible achievement at A Level, adding students have secured places at the most competitive universities in the country.

Alice Burton (A*A*A*) will be studying Modern and Medieval Languages at Selwyn College, Cambridge, Malachi Gee (A*A*AA) will be studying History at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge and Victoria Rolley (A*A*A) will study History at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford.

Four students have secured Medics places Patrick Clennett (Plymouth), Oliver Nash (UCL), Eloise Ramsay (Hull), Jenny Sharpe (Nottingham).

Whilst university places are still being confirmed, the School is anticipating that nearly fifty percent of all students will have secured the grades required to take up a place at a prestigious Russell Group university.

The school says this reflects the high quality of specialist support provided at Harington.

Students leaving the school will be studying a really diverse range of courses including Environmental Sciences, Robotics, International Development, Urban

Planning and Meteorology along with the popular options of Engineering, Law and

Psychology.

This year a number of students have applied for and accessed degree apprenticeships.

This has included George Lovering (A*AB) who secured a Business Leadership and Management Apprenticeship with Ernst Young, Katrina Georgiou (AAB) who will begin an Accountancy Apprenticeship at Grant Thornton, Spencer Hex (BBC) has secured an Actuarial Apprenticeship at XPS Pensions and Cameron Jones has secured a submarine testing and commissioning engineering apprenticeship at BAE.

Cameron said "The School was very supportive in assisting me with my application for the apprenticeship at BAE. I had decided before I joined Harington that I did not want to go to University and wanted to secure an apprenticeship".

Adam O'Brien who is studying Civil Engineering at Bath said: "The teachers were incredible and the level of support we have received throughout has been great. I will be sorry to leave but I am really looking forward to next year."

Catherine Uff who will study Foundation Art next year said: "Despite the challenges of the pandemic I have thoroughly enjoyed our time at Harington and made some great friends. I am looking forward to the next stage of my education."

Daniel and William Law who are studying Engineering at Sheffield and Leeds said: "We enjoyed the extra-curricular activities on offer at Harington particularly music. Harington provided an excellent opportunity by offering the Gold Duke of Edinburgh award, we really enjoyed the experience and it taught us resilience and determination which helped us with our A Level results."

Harington School is a sixth form college offering academic A levels based in Oakham.

The school says it has gone from strength to strength since opening in September 2015, including being judged as Outstanding in all categories in an Ofsted report in January 2017.

The School has grown in size each year since opening and is expected to be over-subscribed for September 2021.

Students interested in applying for September 2022 entry are encouraged to attend the Open Evening at the School on Tuesday 9 November.
